2009: Going Out In Style

It's not a bad little Wednesday when you can leave your house around 9 a.m., meet up with your best friends, spend the day wine-tasting in Napa Valley, and be home in time for dinner. This is exactly what we did one day before New Year's Eve.

With six of the seven of us being newbies to the whole wine-tasting excursion (me, Chris, Robin, Scott, Kim and Eric), we let Michael lead us around from winery to winery and tell us how to cleanse our palates :) He was a great tour guide. We visited five wineries -- plus a great burger place in the middle of it all -- and had a blast.

I think most of the gang agreed that Peju was our favorite place. The tasting there included five wines that everyone loved, including a very refreshing Sauvignon Blanc and a unique red-and-white blend that Chris and I picked up.

We caught sunset on a beautiful deck at Mumm's, known for their sparkling wines, and enjoyed a spectacular view of their vineyard just steps from our table. As we headed home, we took a recommendation received in one tasting room and made a final stop at the Trefethen Family Vineyard. It was hard to resist going with a name like that, which we then proceeded to repeat over and over. Their wine was great and the view of the hills behind the vines was a perfect way to end the day.

We rounded out 2009 with a party at Michael's fabulous new apartment in the city. Great friends and great fun. Here's to 2010!
